Discipleship Foundations Parts 3 & 4
Part 3: The Transformation Formula & Foundational Principles
The Formula (): Information plus Formation equals Transformation. Head knowledge alone fails without experiential faith formation.
Foundation 1: Family/Household: The home is the primary place for faith formation (“the domestic church”); the church exists as a support system.
Foundation 2: Generational Connections: Age-segmented “silos” disconnect youth from older believers. Faith deepens through cross-generational relationships and shared experiences.
Part 4: Formational Pillars 1–4
1. Serving on Mission: Children are active participants in God’s mission, not just recipients of instruction.
2. Responding with Compassion: Involve young people directly in seeing, feeling, and serving real community needs.
3. One Big Story: Move away from disconnected moralistic Bible stories to showing how all Scripture forms one grand narrative in which they play a part.
4. Encounters with Jesus: Create quiet, intentional spaces within active schedules so youth can learn to hear God’s voice directly.
